Civil engineer killed attempting rescue of men in unstable excavation

A 39-year old civil engineer died in an attempt to rescue 2 workers stuck in an excavation in the Mariano Cestero district of Restauracion in the northwest of the Dominican Republic. It is speculated that the excavation on the area known locally as "Los Hoyos"(holes) may have been linked to clandestine gold mining. All 3 people succumbed in the accident, the engineer's body was recovered yesterday but efforts to recover the other 2 bodies will continue today(Wednesday).19th March 2014
