Compressed air exposed to flammable vapors may be extremely dangerous. As an example, we have all heard of or even experienced instances where explosions have sometimes caused serious personal injuries and property damage.
The cause of these explosions may be due to the existence of flammable vapors inside the casing that form an explosive mixture with air. Such mixtures, under the right conditions, may be ignited by an electrostatic discharge.
The following precautions should be taken to avoid flammable vapors accessing compressed air containers.
Even though this practice is not universal, using alcohol, methanol, dry gas or any other flammable material, such as antifreeze, in the compressor to prevent freezing, should not be done. Proper and frequent draining of moisture condensate from the compressor tank should eliminate the need for an antifreeze. lt is strongly recommended that the compressor be located inside where freezing will not be a problem.
Flammable solvents should not be stored near the air intake of compressors. Tire repairing and studding should not be done in the same area.
Air screens on compressors should not be cleaned with flammable solvents. If it should be necessary to clean the screen with such solvents, the screen must be air blown dry before reinstalling.
Do not use bead lubricants with flammable base.
Take a fresh look at your tire inflation and compressor equipment. Make sure that all potential sources or trapping flammable vapors in a tire are eliminated|安全论坛 ( 晋ICP备2023016270号-1 )
