Where are area monitors required?

Enclosed areas must be designed to minimise the likehood of a dangerousatmosphere occurring e.g. plumbing all process and analyser vent lines outside  of the building. Ensure ventilation is sufficient to dilute any leaks fo flammable gases,etc. Even with these safe designs,hazards conditions can arise and require area monitors to warn of potential hazards.

In order to detect a leak there must be some of form of sensor in a location near enough to the source. one mehtod of assisting in the detection of leaks is to install a set of fixed monitors around a potential leak location.

Permanently mounted area monitors must be installed in all enclosed areas/buildings(less than 50% of the perimeter open to the outdoors),where hazardous materials can accumulate from piping or containers that may leak. These hazards include:

2. Oxygen depletion
3. Flammability or explosioin
4. Toxicity
