Premier Wen Jiabao: graft biggest threat

PREMIER Wen Jiabao said yesterday of all threats posed to China, corruption is the most serious. And that China must seek political reform under the leadership of the Party.
昨天，温家宝总理表示，中国面临的诸多问题中，腐败是最严重的问题。中国必须在寻求政治体制改革。
    “Without political reform, economic reform cannot succeed and the achievements we have made may be wasted,” Wen told a press conference after the conclusion of the annual parliamentary session yesterday, noting that “reform is a constant theme of human history.”
“没有政治体制的改革，经济改革就不能取得成功，我们所取得的成就也是没有用的”温家宝在两会结束的记者招待会议上表示，者并不是说改革是人类历史的主旋律。
    “To eliminate the breeding ground of corruption, we should pursue institutional reform,” he said.
消灭腐败存在的土壤的办法，就是继续坚持体制改革：
    “The fate of a country lies in the hearts of its people,” Wen said. “If we are to address the people’s grievances and meet their wishes, we must create conditions for the people to criticize and supervise the government.”
    He said fairness and justice are the defining features of socialism. “We must promote fairness in income distribution and gradually narrow the widening income gap.”
    He also vowed to promote fairness in the distribution of educational and health care resources, so that all people will be able to share the benefits of the country’s reform and opening up.
